About Pain Day

What is Pain Day?

The Caribbean Pain Society in association with the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, presents its inaugural Annual Pain Day Symposium. The event features an exciting line up of International guest speakers from Multiple Disciplines. The aim of this event is to create wider knowledge and education surrounding the concepts and challenges in pain management and to foster regional integration.

About the Organizer

Dr Judith Nicholls is an anesthesiologist and pain physician at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados and an Associate Lecturer at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus. She recently returned to Barbados after having completed a clinical fellowship in pain management with the University of Toronto and the University Health Network, Toronto Ontario. Throughout her time in Canada, she gained valuable knowledge and skills and also developed a network of colleagues and mentors within the University of Toronto and the Canadian Pain Society.

With this in mind, she started to fashion ideas and concepts on how she could eventually improve the approach to pain management in the Caribbean through educational seminars in collaboration with her Canadian counterparts. These ideas lead to the development of the Caribbean Pain Society and the Annual Pain Day Symposium. It is hoped that this event will foster the development of a regional network of multidisciplinary pain practitioners and allow for much needed advancements in patient care, education and pain research within the Caribbean.
